Hide and Seek

Hide and Seek is a daily activity in our house. But then, I'm not sure if it actually counts as real, bona fide Hide and Seek. We definitely aren't playing by the rulebook. You see, when I'm in the kitchen and starting to cover my eyes to count my son says "mommy while you count, I will be hiding under my bed".

It's a little like that time Jonah tried to hide from God, except that he forgot that God created every crevice and corner of this universe. He ran as fast and far as he could in the opposite direction that God asked him to go. But God couldn't be fooled. God saw. God knew. God endured, showing up to save him in the darkest hour in the depths of that sea.

And for us too, it might prove a pretty uneventful game of Hide and Seek but what a gift we have that God sees, knows, cares - no matter how much we long to hide and disappear. God never-failing, forever-steadfast, holy, compassionate, love will find us.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. - Psalm 139
